Design, Job secured by competitive alternative design for the Contractor

The bridge consists of two approaches each 201m long, connecting a 105m long railway crossing which was designed and executed by other agencies.  The overall width of the bridge is 27m, consisting of two carriageways separated by a 1.2m wide central verge, with 2.7m wide footpaths on each side.

The approaches on each side begin with a 66m long embankment contained by reinforced concrete retaining walls.  The rest of the approaches are 12m in-situ reinforced concrete spans, and 27m prestressed concrete spans.  The approaches cross a 40m wide expressway and a 27m wide road.

The prestressed concrete spans comprise 12 precast prestressed beams of 1.6m depth interconnected by cross-prestressed diaphragms and a reinforced concrete decking slab.  The girders were cast on the approaches and launched over the road portion using a launching truss.  The bridge is founded on cast-in-situ bored 660mm diameter piles.
