Consultancy, Project Management & Full-time Supervision | | | | This octagonal-section twin-arch reinforced concrete pedestrian foot-bridge spans 65m across the Sion-Panvel Expressway, near Juinagar Railway Station. The horizontal crossing over the highway is not a true tie for the arches, which span between abutments. | |
| Short flights of steps near the start of each ramp, and climbing up the arch profile on either side of the horizontal, are intended to discourage motor-cyclists from riding over the ramps and the bridge. Construction was cast in-situ, with the exception of the horizontal deck slabs, which were precast. |
| | | The inverted octagonal-section edge beams on either side of the access ramps eliminate the need for a separate railing. |
| | | The cross-sections of the arch members and the inverted ramp beams are identical. |
| For this bridge, SPA received the Most Outstanding Bridge National Award (Aesthetics), Indian Institution of Bridge Engineers, 1997. | | [Back] © Shirish Patel & Associates Consultants Private Limited |
